JOB TITLE: Childcare Assistant
Qualifications:
- Experience in a school or daycare setting preferred; is at least 18 years old
- Completed 60 college credit hours and/or passing score on the ParaPro exam, and/or complete Missouri’s 20-hour online substitute training program.
Reports To: Childcare Lead and Elementary Administration
Job Goal:
The Childcare Assistant will assist the Childcare Lead in the management and instruction of students or small groups. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Performance Objectives:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the Childcare Lead.
- Provides direct caregiving services (i.e. feeding, toileting, personal care)
- Assists the Childcare Lead in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Assists students with achieving established goals, with personal care and mobility; preparing and maintaining files and records.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular Childcare Lead.
- Alerts the regular Childcare Lead to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Participates in staff development programs, as assigned.
- Assists the Childcare Lead in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on bulletin boards and/or other classroom learning displays and in keeping such displays current.
- Assists students in completing classroom assignments and projects. Ensures
student understanding of classroom rules and procedures, and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance.
- Assists Childcare Lead with the implementation of lesson plans. Prepares mandated reports and documentation as required.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing,
typing, copying, and filing instructional materials.
- Assists with lunch, snacks, and other clean-up duties, as assigned.
- Assures the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures and maintaining the learning environment in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities as directed, and report progress
regarding student performance and behavior to supervising Childcare Lead.
- Read, analyze, and interpret administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance
- Complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents
- Present information effectively and respond to questions
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; Use district software for recording grades and finding student information; Utilize smart boards, projectors, and other instructional technology provided by the district
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, administrators, and members of the community
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Employment is on an annual basis. This is an at-will position. The Superintendent of Schools makes employment recommendations in April of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Classified Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the MSBA Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff (GDN).
