POSITION TITLE

District School Psychological Examiner

 

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent/Director of Special Programs

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Missouri Professional teaching certification

School Psychological Examiner certificate

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by ensuring: 

  • appropriate identification of students with disabilities referred to the district student assessment team, 
  • compliance with district, state, and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act,
  • provides consultation and training on special education and/or 504 concerns. 
  • Facilitate ELL assessments 
  • Consult with gifted teacher as needed around special programs assessment

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Area I – Test Administration 

  • Displays competent knowledge of individual assessment approaches, procedures and instruments, and statistics. 
  • Develops rapport and relates appropriately and effectively with children under evaluation.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of child and adolescent development. 
  • Effectively selects and appropriately administers in a timely manner varied individual tests to students referred for evaluation and reevaluation. 
  • Effectively interprets special education disability criteria, 504 eligibility,  individual psychological and educational test data, and diagnostic reports to principals, teachers, parents, support staff, and agency personnel, as appropriate. 
  • Is sensitive to and knowledgeable of the challenges of assessment considering the individual diversity of the child, including cultural/ethnic factors. 
  • Administers testing, writes reports, facilitates and attends staffings for district children 

 

Area II – Professional Responsibilities 

  • Uses time effectively to coordinate testing schedules and programs.
  • Attends professional growth activities, maintains current knowledge of trends, requirements, and special education and section 504  legal and procedural developments. 
  • Applies and uses knowledge gained to promote progress 
  • Maintains current knowledge and compliance with district and state Special Education Compliance Plans, Section 504 plans and relevant federal laws and regulations. 
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school district. 
  • Demonstrates professional responsibilities and collaboration with educational stakeholders and peers. 
  • Practices in a legal and ethical manner abiding by the APA’s Ethical Standards of Psychologists policy

 

Area III – Reports and Records 

  • Maintains accurate files and paperwork for individual students referred, screened, and evaluated, and other diagnostic team-provided, data-based services. 
  • Identifies the individual needs of the student and recommends appropriate techniques or strategies to assist with programming.
  • Analyzes assessment data carefully, writes descriptive diagnostic reports using district format, and submits finished reports to students’ process coordinator in a timely manner. 
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing..

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position. 
  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively as necessary to fulfill job duties.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is on an annual basis. The Assistant Superintendent makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION

An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
