PARAPROFESSIONAL
JOB TITLE: ECSE Paraprofessional
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- 60 Hours of College and/or passed the ParaPro assessment
- Substitute Certificate
REPORTS TO: Classroom teacher and Building Principals
General Summary:
Special education paraprofessionals assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide educational support to students
- Provide direct or assists with personal care services (i.e. feeding, toileting, personal care)
- Support communication and skill development through the encouragement of the use of communication devices and tools as directed or under the supervision of the teacher or therapist
- Reinforce classroom management as directed by the teacher
- Supervise student(s) in non-classroom settings such as lunchroom, playground supervision, bus arrival, and dismissal
- Support compliance with IEPs and other student management systems
- Maintain confidentiality of information about students and employees
- Participate in appropriate in-service training and willingness to learn individual communication devices or tools that are utilized by the student
- Provide support to maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
- Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations and the handbook
- Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment is on an annual basis. This is an at-will position. The Superintendent of Schools makes employment recommendations in April of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Classified Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
An annual evaluation is conducted by the principal each year using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education
